W.I.S.E Up workshops give children in grades 1 -5 and their parents the techniques to handle comments and questions about adoption. This program gives children the power to choose how to talk about adoption with others. During these workshops, parents and children will work in two separate groups and then come together at the end to share their experiences.
Adoption Options is excited to be able to offer this workshop for the first time in Manitoba.

The W.I.S.E. Up Workbook
W.I.S.E. Up the Owl leads young readers through the book with questions about feelings, different ways the topic of adoption is brought up by peers, and how to handle situations as they arise. Kids are given choices on how to respond with several different examples. The W.I.S.E. Up Powerbook offers kids real solutions that they can use at any time to handle themselves with confidence and strength.

Birth Family Relationships: Navigating the Complexities with Courage and Compassion
This workshop is for adoptive parents who are considering openness and those who are currently in relationships with their child’s birth family. A child’s knowledge and understanding of those with whom they share biology undoubtedly plays a role in shaping who they become. Adoptive parents play a crucial role in supporting healthy identity formation for their children – in the way they explain, support, and validate the role of birth family. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how to make decisions around providing birth family information to their children, supporting contact and visits, setting healthy boundaries and effectively responding to the big feelings of their children.
Date: Thursday May 24
Time: 6:30 pm — 8:30 pm
Location: Winnipeg Adoption Options, 1313 Portage Ave

On the first Saturday of November, Adoption Options hosts our annual Conceiving Dreams Dinner and Trivia Night to celebrate adoption and Adoption Awareness Month.
This event is FUN and EXCITING where tables compete against each other in a live interactive trivia game to try their luck at being the winning table. Each team answers questions from a range of topics using their experience, wit, wisdom, and some luck to outsmart the opposing teams. In addition to the trivia game, evening highlights include a great meal, rainbow auction packages, silent auction packages, live auction packages, a photo booth, and music and dancing to end the evening.
The Conceiving Dreams – A Celebration of Adoption event welcomes children who enjoy dressing up and would like to sit with the adults and participate in the trivia fun!
Proceeds from Conceiving Dreams lead to financial security that enables AO to continue to provide ongoing services to Birthparents, Adoptees and Adoptive Parents. A portion of the proceeds are designated to public awareness and adoption education.
